Lufthansa Group is reportedly considering greater operational integration between Lufthansa, Lufthansa City Airlines and Discover Airlines under a project known as “Nexus.”
According to German media reports, the project could bring some activities currently managed separately by the three airlines under a centralised structure. Joint crew planning is among the options being considered, with the aim of reducing costs and increasing operational synergies across the group.
The plan is seen as part of Lufthansa Group’s efforts to strengthen its cost structure amid intense competition in the European aviation market. However, concerns have reportedly been raised within the group that deeper integration could affect the more flexible operating structures of Lufthansa City Airlines and Discover Airlines.
The extent of the “Nexus” project and which areas of the three airlines’ operations could ultimately be integrated have yet to be determined.
